D Serine by Ergomax

Ergomax D-serine contains more than 99% pure dextro serine. D-serine is a naturally occurring dextro amino acid. D-serine is a body's own substance that is common in the brain: it is produced within the human body. It is a unique nootropic. Athletes, students, professionals and people doing high-skilled tasks often opt for a D-serine supplement.

Benefits

  • Natural dextro amino acid
  • Suitable for professionals, athletes, students and people doing high-skilled day tasks or hobbies
  • Unique nootropic
  • Functions as a neurotransmitter and as a glio transmitter
  • Does not contain gluten or soy; GMO-free
  • Suitable for vegans and vegetarians

Proteinogenic amino acid

D-Serine is the second amino acid to have been discovered after D-aspartate. D-Serine is a proteinogenic amino acid and is also known simply as serine. Most amino acids come in two enantiomers (mirror-image molecules), in an L- (laevo = left) and in a D-structure (dextro = right). Usually the two structural variants have different effects in the body. D-serine offers the specific features of the D-form.

Biological functions of D-amino acids

It was long thought that D-amino acids did not occur in humans, but only in some bacteria and insects. It was also believed that the D amino acids had no specific biological function. It is now known that D-amino acids play important biological roles throughout the body. Proper D-amino acid concentrations are therefore essential.

Parallels with the effects of glycine

D-serine is comparable in function to glycine. A glycinergic substance is a substance that modulates the body’s glycine system. D-serine is a so-called ligand, a molecule that can bind another molecule. D-serine can bind to the glycine binding site at NMDA receptors and is a so-called glio-transmitter. The effect of D-serine appears to be more biologically relevant, and generally more potent, than that of glycine.

The building blocks of the body

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and are therefore crucial for our body. Our body consists of about 20% proteins. Amino acids play a key role in almost all of the body’s biochemical processes, including cell metabolism, as energy metabolites, as essential nutrients and as messengers in cell communication. Of the five hundred identified amino acids, twenty-two occur in human proteins, the so-called fundamental amino acids. The body can synthesize a number of amino acids: the non-essential amino acids. The essential amino acids can only be obtained from either food or supplementation. In specific situations non-essential amino acids may become essential.

Safety note

Use of D-serine has been documented at a dose of 2,000 mg total per day for up to six weeks. No adverse effects occurred.
