Prostate & Testicles

The prostate is a small organ about the size of a chestnut located in a man's body below the bladder. It is also known as the prostate gland and is part of the male reproductive system. The prostate lobes consist of numerous glandular ducts that open into the ejaculatory duct and urethra. Its function is to produce seminal fluid or prostatic fluid, which helps sperm from the testes move. The testes, or testicles, are also part of the reproductive system. A healthy man has two testicles, each about four to five centimeters long, located in the scrotum. Sperm cells are produced in the testicles, along with the male hormone testosterone. Ergomax offers an interesting and carefully selected range of prostate supplements that can support a healthy prostate and testicles.

How does the male reproductive system work?

The production of sperm occurs in the testicles or testes, which are then stored in the epididymis. This is a complex process in men that begins in puberty and continues throughout their lives, provided they are healthy. On average, a man produces about 70 million sperm per day, and it takes approximately three months for sperm to mature fully. The last 22 to 24 days of this process are spent in the epididymis, where sperm can mature and gain motility. Since the ideal temperature for sperm is lower than the body temperature, the scrotum, which contains the testes and epididymis, is located outside the body. During ejaculation, the stored sperm cells travel up the vas deferens to the prostate, where the two vas deferens merge. Just before the prostate, you'll find the seminal vesicles. As the sperm passes by, the seminal vesicles contribute seminal fluid, in which the sperm can swim. In the prostate, more seminal fluid is added, along with nutrients that allow the sperm to survive longer inside a woman's uterus.

About the male sperm cell

Did you know that sperm cells were discovered by a Dutch scientist? In 1677, microbiologist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek observed moving "animalcules" when he examined his own semen under a microscope. A male sperm cell resembles a tadpole, consisting of a head, a midpiece, and a tail. The head contains all the essential genetic information, including an X or Y chromosome. The midpiece primarily consists of mitochondria, which are the energy factories that supply the sperm cell with the required energy. The tail contributes to the sperm cell's motility. During ejaculation, an average of 100 to 200 million sperm cells are released, and they can only survive outside the body for a few hours at most. Inside a woman's body, a sperm cell has a lifespan of approximately 5 days.

Tips for a healthy prostate

The size of the prostate gland increases from puberty onward under the influence of the hormone testosterone. A fully developed prostate weighs approximately 15 to 20 grams. As men age, they often notice minor changes in their prostate, which is a normal part of the aging process. There are several things you can do to support your prostate's health. Proper toilet habits are essential, meaning it's good to sit down while urinating, not to delay when you feel the need to urinate, and ensure that you empty your bladder completely. Paying attention to your diet can also support your prostate and testicles. Opt for healthy fats and choose foods rich in antioxidants. Blueberries, raspberries, carrots, kale, and grapefruits are particularly rich in antioxidants that help protect the body from external harmful influences. Additionally, drinking enough water and limiting caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods are important for maintaining the health of your prostate and testicles through diet.

Nutritional Supplements, Prostate & Testicles

It is also possible to support your prostate and testicles with nutritional supplements. Minerals like selenium and zinc are good for male fertility since they contribute to sperm production. However, it's essential not to overconsume zinc. Furthermore, the beneficial plant saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) may be good for the prostate, urinary tract, and fertility*. Ergomax offers prostate supplements in its product range, such as Prostate Strength™ - Prostate Formula by Megafood, Grassfed Beef Prostate with Liver by Ancestral Supplements, and Libidon – Prostate Extract by Garmonia. Prostate Strength™ by Megafood is a comprehensive blend of natural ingredients, including copper, selenium, and zinc.
