Estrotone™ by New Chapter

A natural balance before, during and after the menopause. New Chapter’s Estrotone™ has been formulated specifically for women seeking natural support for hormonal changes. Circa the menopause, the body is actively looking for a new balance. It entails hormonal changes that may cause symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain and mood swings. Nevertheless, the menopause is a natural process, which you will want to combat with synthetic means as little as possible. Unlike many other menopausal products, Estrotone™ harnesses the power of Mother Earth for a natural support of hormonal balance, overall health and more vitality.

Estrotone™ contains evening primrose oil and a safe amount of black cohosh and monk pepper phytoestrogens helpful in dealing with hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings. The potent antioxidants ginger and rosemary balance menopause, ensure that you can age healthily, and support overall resistance. Individual herbs in Estrotone™’s carefully composed herb blend enhance each other's action for a hormonal balance throughout the menopausal phase. A daily capsule contains 200 mg of organic evening primrose oil, 160 mg of schisandra, 50 mg of ginger, 40 mg of black cohosh, 40 mg of monk pepper, and 10 mg of rosemary. The capsules dissolve quickly for easy absorption.

Evening primrose oil: A rich source of GLA

Evening primrose oil helps fighting complaints such as night sweats and hot flashes during menopause. The 100% vegetable oil in New Chapter's Estrotone™ is extracted from the seeds and cold pressed so that all good properties are preserved. The secret of evening primrose is the high dose of gamma linolenic acid (GLA). Evening primrose oil is one of the richest sources (nearly 10 percent) of this essential omega 6 fatty acid. Most vegetable oils contain a lot less GLA, which is also hardly found in food. Our body forms GLA via linoleic acid, but the enzyme responsible for this conversion slowly disappears with age. That is why it is important to supplement it around the menopausal phase.

GLA is responsible for a number of specific mini-hormones of which prostaglandins are the best known. They have powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Too little GLA means too little prostaglandins and this is where evening primrose helps out. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory activity, evening primrose also supports your immune system. It also benefits skin, hair and nails, on top of maintaining a healthy blood pressure and balancing of cholesterol levels. Regarding menopausal symptoms, the oil helps fighting hot flashes and night sweats and maintains a good mood. In addition, it works effectively in weight loss.

With phytoestrogens of black cohosh and monk pepper

Black cohosh and monk pepper are important phytoestrogens, also known as isoflavones. The word phytoestrogen is a combination of the Greek phytos (= plant) and estrogen. Phytoestrogens can mimic the action of human estrogen in conditions of deficiency. This is a great advantage for menopausal women, because many menopausal symptoms can thus be limited. Black cohosh is a well-known phytoestrogen that has a major influence on the dysfunction of the LH hormone, which is naturally responsible for ovulation and the release of estrogen and progesterone. Around the time of menopause, the release of LH can be disrupted, causing typical menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, headaches and vaginal complaints. Thanks to black cohosh, according to recent research, these complaints appear to disappear to a large extent. Due to the large amount of bioactive substances (phenolic acids, flavonoids, tannins and triterpene glycosides) black cohosh provides support for a wide range of complaints and helps improve mood.

Monk pepper is also a phytoestrogen and is known as an important “female herb”. Research shows that the currant of the monk pepper, or chaste tree, has a harmonizing influence on the (female) hormone equilibrium. The dark berries contain bioactive substances including iridoid glycosides, flavonoids, diterpenes, lignans and essential oil. The flavonoids are antioxidants and phytoestrogens. Iridoid glycosides exert an indirect effect on the hormone metabolism. In addition, monk pepper corrects progesterone deficiencies and stimulates the dopaminergic system, which has a beneficial effect on menstrual and menopausal complaints.

Oral intake of phytoestrogens is not entirely without side effects, according to the side effects center Lareb. So it is important that you get the right amount. In New Chapter's Estrotone ™ capsules, ingredients and quantities have been carefully tested for safety: you can use them daily without worry.

Schisandra as an adaptogen: Balance during menopause

Schisandra Chinensis is one of New Chapter's most beneficial ingredients. The berries of the Asian creeper are known for improving bodily resistance and for increasing mental and physical performance.

The fruits contain schisandrin, a toning and strengthening substance, vitamin E and minerals including iron, copper, manganese, nickel, molybdenum, titanium, zinc and magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. For this reason, it has been in use in Chinese medicine for centuries.

Schisandra is considered an adaptogen. It gives rest in stressful situations and energy in times of fatigue. Adaptogen is a well-known term in the holistic diet theory. Ayurvedic medicine has been using herbs and crops that serve as adaptogens for centuries. The Latin verb 'adaptare' means adapting: adaptogens help your body adapt to negative stimuli from, for example, stress or sadness. This creates more balance.

The pharmacological concept of adaptogens assumes that they stabilize physiological processes and promote homeostasis. Thus, adaptogens stimulate the body to produce a balanced hormone production. They do not ensure the production of hormones themselves, but remedy imbalances. Research has shown that schisandra influences cortisol, testosterone, nitrogen and prostaglandin, among other, pathways. Because of the stimulating effect on memory and the balancing effect on hormones, it gives women support before, during and after menopause. Finally, schisandra ensures that you relax faster and therefore fall asleep more easily.

With the power of ginger and rosemary

New Chapter daily Estrotone ™ capsules also contain 50 mg of ginger and 10 mg of rosemary. Ginger is the well-known 'king of the herbs', full of antioxidants that protect against harmful free radicals. Ginger, or jahé, has a cleansing effect: it helps removing harmful substances, making you feel fitter and more energetic. The yellow tuber with the unique taste also contains various B vitamins, vitamin C and various minerals including sodium, calcium, magnesium, zinc and phosphorus. Recent scientific research has shown that the most beneficial effect of ginger is attributable to over 100 bioactive substances, the most important of which are gingerol and shogaol. Because of this, ginger supports all kinds of processes in your body and helps fight nausea and weight loss; it is also anti-inflammatory and mildly analgesic, and it improves brain function.

The culinary herb rosemary contains many vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients as well, including phenolic acid and various essential oils. As a strong antioxidant, rosemary supports healthy aging. Rosemary is fever-reducing, pain-relieving, benefits the respiratory tract and has bactericidal properties, and cleans the blood. Like many green herbs, rosemary also works well for digestive problems. For women in the period around the menopause it is beneficial that rosemary improves blood circulation (reducing cold feet or hands) and improves mood and memory.
