Optimal Prenatal by Seeking Health

Seeking Health Optimal Prenatal is a comprehensive prenatal formula with a unique blend of minerals, vitamins and amino acids. The formula has been specifically designed to meet the increased nutritional needs of women who are pregnant or preparing for pregnancy. Also taken into account are the digestive sensitivities that may occur during pregnancy. For example, this product does not contain iron, because not all women can process this equally well and not all women can use it. L-5-MTHF has been added as the patented enzyme Quatrefolic®, the most bioavailable and a methylated form of folic acid, which has a beneficial effect on the cell division process.

Packed with potent ingredients

This complex Optimal Prenatal formula is packed with powerful ingredients. The supplement not only contains the methylated form of folate (L-5-MTHF), it also contains folinic acid, the non-methylated variety that can be converted by the body. This blend of folates works well with amino acids and in minerals such as copper, magnesium and iodine. Iodine is added to support the synthesis of the nerve cell structure while magnesium benefits the muscles and state of mind. The formula also contains vitamin A, indeed in two forms (beta-carotene and retinyl palmitate), as well as B vitamins (including the active forms of riboflavin and B6) which help fight fatigue, contribute to mental resilience and support the immune system. Also unique to this formula is the addition of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and the spice ginger, which supports digestion*3 as well as proper stomach functions during periods of morning sickness*3.

Evolution of epigenetics

To this day there is debate about the extent to which we as humans are 'pre-programmed' or rather shaped by our environment. The relatively new science called epigenetics bridges these two extreme positions. It examines changes in gene expression which take place in the 'epigenome', without the DNA sequence changing. The difference between genetics and epigenetics can be thought of as the difference between writing and reading a book. Once a story is on paper, this information will be the same in all printed copies of the book. However, each individual reader has a different interpretation of the story, and experiences different thoughts or emotions. Likewise, our DNA is interpreted, as it were, and switched 'on' or 'off' by epigenomes. For example, the story of our DNA can take different twists, depending on the way in which the epigenomes influence the story. More and more researchers are convinced that epigenomes can in turn be influenced by diet and lifestyle. This is of course a very interesting field of research. The methylation processes that occur constantly in our bodies and what role they play in epigenetics, are currently particularly widely researched by epigeneticists.

The Methylation Process

The methylation process is one of the most important and most intriguing biochemical processes in our body. Currently a lot of research is being done with several studies pointing out that there is a probable link between the ability to methylate and health. The process of methylation takes place trillions of times every minute in all cells of our body and affects, among other systems, energy production, DNA regeneration, hormone production and repair work. Technically, methylation is a controlled transfer of a methyl group to primarily proteins, amino acids, enzymes and DNA. In addition, substances able to donate a methyl group are called methyl donors, including B vitamins, vitamin C, biotin, zinc, folic acid and betaine. Methyl groups facilitate the on-and-off switches of our DNA and thus play an important role in the gene expression of our DNA. This makes them one of the most researched molecules in epigenetics.

Epigenetics & Seeking Health

The term epigenetics was coined in 1942 by biologist Conrad Waddington in an attemot to interpret the phenomenon in which genes, under the influence of environmental factors, can be switched on and off. In epigenetic modifications, the function of a gene changes without changing its code, as when a piece of music is played by different musicians; the same notes are on the sheet, but they sound different. For example, two people who are genetically identical can still be very different epigenetically. This has been a guiding principle for Seeking Health’s Dr. Ben Lynch. By detecting the markers around the DNA that can turn genes on or off and influence them with the help of nutrition, supplements and lifestyle adjustments, Lynch argues that we can 'clean up our dirty genes', as it were, and can influence our gene expression.

About Seeking Health

Seeking Health was founded by Dr. Ben Lynch, who in 2018, after years of research, wrote the book Dirty Genes. Lynch received his doctorate in natural medicine from Bastyr University in Washington, DC, and helped thousands of clients, doctors and health professionals worldwide gain insights from epigenetics to optimize their health the holistic way. Lynch, currently the most consulted expert in epigenetics, is convinced that our genetic destiny is not fixed. Rather, through the right diet and lifestyle we can interact with our genes to realize our body’s full genetic potential.

I love this product so much and the formulation behind it, literally one of the best prenatal supplement there is in the market if not the very best! Few prenatal supp out there that has choline which is basically a brain vitamin, FOLATE and not the sinthetic acid folic that your body sometimes can’t absorb. Really great for pre-pregnancy, during and breastfeeding and anyone looking for a potent multivitamin.
